IntroductionThis collection of freeware tools can convert to and from various audio and sound formats. These formats include:Raw files in various binary formats, Raw textual data, Amiga 8svx, Apple/SGI AIFF, SUN .au style (PCM, u-law, A-law, G7xx ADPCM, mutant DEC .au, NeXT .snd), AVR, CD-R (music CD format), CVS and VMS (continuous variable slope), GSM, Macintosh HCOM, Amiga MAUD, MP3 (with optional external library), Psion Record.app, IRCAM SoundFile, NIST SPHERE, Turtle beach SampleVision, Soundtool (DOS), Yamaha TX-16W sampler, Sound Blaster .VOC, Ogg Vorbis (with optional external library), Dialogic/OKI ADPCM (.VOX), Microsoft .WAV (PCM, u-law, A-law, MS ADPCM, IMA ADPCM, GSM), Psion (palmtop) A-law WVE, Pseudo-file formats that allow direct playing/recording from some audio devices under UNIX, Pseudo-nul file that reads and writes from/to nowhere The software is simple to install just download and run the installer. The tools, help files and directory paths are setup automatically. This collection also includes the Octopus for batch processing. The Octopus can be used to apply a specified command to a list of files and/or sub-directories. This tool is useful to convert mutiple files in different locations. For example to convert AU, you can use the Octopus as follows: octopus -r "*.au" -c "sox %file%" The above command will recurse down the current directory converting all files with the extension ".au".
